Dr. Christopher Horrell is a Marine Archaeologist and the President of Submerged Archaeological Conservancy International. Chris’ 27-year career has included pre-European contact and historic underwater sites in coastal areas, rivers, and offshore at sites in shallow waters and at extreme depths. His expertise ranges from the 16th century Spanish Colonial period to World War II and he has sole- or co-authored more than 25 publications.

Melanie Damour, M.A.

Melanie Damour is a Marine Archaeologist and the Vice President of Submerged Archaeological Conservancy International. Melanie’s 22-year career in marine archaeology includes research at submerged pre-European contact and historic sites in depths from shallow rivers and bays to more than six thousand feet in the Gulf of Mexico. Her expertise is primarily historic shipwrecks ranging in age from the 16th century through World War II, and she has sole- or co-authored more than 30 publications.

Jonathan Kingston

Jonathan Kingston is a contributing photographer at National Geographic. He combines science, exploration and storytelling to inspire a better understanding of our world and its inhabitants. For over 20 years he has traveled extensively around the globe documenting our terrestrial and underwater world. Jonathan brings the same passion for archaeological preservation and ocean conservation as he does to his photography.

Andrew Beaujeaux

Andrew Beaujeaux is an educator and businessman who has developed several commercial martial arts schools and physical fitness facilities in southeast Louisiana. Andrew holds a Master’s Degree in History – which he has taught at the university level. His keen interest in maritime exploration and conservation led him to complete his Open Water Scuba Diving certification in 2017. Andrew’s unique perspective as a businessman and passion for history guides the board in making sound financial decisions related to SACI’s mission.

Gilbert Froehlich Jr. is an entrepreneur, inventor and owner of a business empire that ranges from retail to recycling to real estate. His love of maritime history and business acumen help guide SACI in sound business decisions.

Frederick Hanselmann
PH.D

Dr. Frederick H. Hanselmann (“Fritz”) is an underwater archaeologist and Faculty in the Department of Marine Ecosystems and Society and part of the Exploration Sciences Program at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Miami, where he directs the Underwater Archaeology Program. Fritz has directed or investigated many challenging underwater archaeology projects including working at extreme depth and on submerged pre-contact sites.

Jason Heaton

Jason Heaton is a Minneapolis-based freelance writer, specializing in adventure, travel, outdoor gear, and diving. He has contributed to Outside, Wired, Men’s Journal, Hodinkee, Australian Geographic, as well as other publications, and is the co-host of the popular podcast, The Grey NATO. He has dived all over the world, from New Zealand to Japan to Mauritius, but has a soft spot for the shipwrecks of the Great Lakes.

Douglas Peter is a Marine Biologist with a 26-year career managing marine habitat projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Doug holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Resources Management. A deep interest in marine life and appreciation for cultural resources has led to a pursuit of sustaining our marine resources, both living and non-living.
